SMOKING PROHIBITION

 

 

Prohibition of Smoking by Employees

Employees shall at all times respect the N.J. State Law P.L. 1989, C.96 and policies of the school district on nonsmoking.  Employees who repeatedly violate the posted no-smoking policy may be disciplined for insubordination and/or consistent willful disregard for administrative directives.

 

Employees are notified that pursuant to N.J.S.A. 26:3D-20, persons violating Board policies regarding smoking may be subject to a fine.

 

Prohibition of Smoking by Visitors (Vendors, Volunteers, Parents)

Visitors shall at all times respect the N.J. State Law P.L. 1989, C.96 and policies of the school district on nonsmoking.  Violators will be asked to leave.  Repeated violators will be barred from school buildings, offices, and activities.

 

Prohibition of Smoking by Students

A.      Students are not permitted to smoke at any time in school buildings, or anywhere within school boundaries, or on school buses, or when off school premises but on a school-sponsored trip or activity.

B.      Students are not to carry cigarettes or other smoking materials such as tobacco, pipes, or cigarette rolling papers while on school property or school-sponsored activities.

C.      Students are not permitted to use smokeless tobacco on school property or at school sponsored activities.

D.      Students who are found in violation of the above and N.J. State Law P.L. 1989, C.96 shall be subject to the following discipline:

                        Any one of, combination of, or all of the following as determined by the building principal and as authorized by the Superintendent of Schools—phone call to parent/guardian, letter to student file describing the incident, suspension (if combined with defiance to school official or refusal to extinguish burning tobacco), referral to counselor for assistance in quitting.
