CONTROL OF CONTAGIOUS DISEASES

 

 

The Board recognizes that control of the spread of contagious disease is essential to the well being of the school community and to the efficient operation of the schools.  For purposes of this policy, “contagious disease” shall include but is not limited to smallpox, diphtheria, scarlet fever and other strep infections, whooping cough, influenza, mumps, typhoid fever, measles and rubella, chicken pox, impetigo, conjunctivitis, mononucleosis, ringworm, scabies and pediculosis.

 

The Board shall observe statutes and rules of the State Board for the exclusion and readmission of students who have contracted a contagious disease and all teachers and students who have been exposed to a contagious disease, and the instruction of teachers in health and the prevention of disease.

 

The Board shall comply with regulations of the State Department of Health regarding the prevention, control and reporting of contagious diseases and shall endeavor to cooperate fully with such Board(s) in the interest of the health of the community.

 

On the recommendation of the school medical inspector or the school nurse or neither, if they are not present in the building, the teacher may exclude from the classroom and the principal may exclude from the building or isolate in the school any pupil who appears to be ill or has been exposed to a contagious disease.
