CHESTER TOWNSHIP BOARD OF EDUCATION  POLICY 3810

TRANSPORTATION

The Board recognizes that transportation for most district students to and from school is required for the promotion of education by convenient access, the safeguarding of children, and the partial equalization of inequities among students which may have been caused by the placement of school facilities.  Therefore, the Board of Education directs the Superintendent or designee to arrange transportation for:

a)       All district students except for those students who are deemed to be able to walk safely to and from school.

b)       Students who are educationally handicapped and are transported to school sites other than the Chester Township Schools.

c)       Students participating in Board approved field trips or extra curricular activities

d)       Students attending nonpublic schools who are entitled to transportation under 18A:39.

All students riding on buses shall be required to observe the district’s bus conduct regulations or risk loss of the privilege of such transportation.  Buses and vans, whether contracted or district owned, shall be kept in optimum condition and shall conform to all safety regulations.
