BRAGGAZINE
Students brainstorm ideas for articles relating to Bragg Intermediate School.  They use Microsoft Word and a digital camera to prepare their articles and Publisher Software to create the magazine.

ED VISION TESTING
Ed Vision’s performance series is a standard-based adapted measure of academic performance.  It is an assessment tool with the power of the Internet and results that can be used immediately to enhance instruction.

EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION PROGRAMS/PURCHASES
The Educational Foundation of the Chesters provides support to the programs and activities at Bragg Intermediate School.

HOMEWORK CLUB
Bragg Intermediate School’s Homework Club meets twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays for one hour after school.  Support is provided for fourth and fifth grade students in individual or group study sessions.  Peer tutoring is an important part of this program.  Students brainstorm strategies in a more informal setting.

I CAN PROBLEM SOLVE
I CAN PROBLEM SOLVE is a school based intervention program that trains students to recognize thoughts, feelings and motives that generate problem situations.  The program facilitates change in thinking styles by teaching students “how to think” not “what to think”, supporting students to develop a variety of solutions to problem situations.  I CAN PROBLEM SOLVE serves as an effective violence prevention program by helping children think of non-violent ways to solve everyday problems.  I CAN PROBLEM SOLVE improves the social adjustment of all children providing them the “tools” to get along with others.

ORIENTATION
Students and their parents who are new to the district are invited to participate in welcoming activities prior to the start of school in September.  The activities include icebreakers, games, and discussion of school curriculum.

PERFORMING ARTS
The Performing Arts members prepare a performance each year.  Students in the fifth grade try out for roles as actors, actresses, set designers and/or backstage crew.  Students perform for Dickerson Elementary School, Bragg Intermediate School, senior citizens, parents and the community.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
This committee organizes and plans the activities, refreshments and presentations for staff in-service training days.

RAINBOWS
“Rainbows” is a program that is designed to provide support for children who are grieving a loss.  Trained facilitators utilize the Rainbows curriculum to lead weekly support.

ROUNDTABLE MEETINGS
Roundtable meetings provide an opportunity for interested parents to meet with school administration to discuss curriculum instruction and school programs and practices.

Science Environmental Club
Thanks to a donation made by the Chester Township Education Foundation the courtyard at Bragg School was renovated and converted
into an area to be enjoyed by students and teachers in memory of Robin La Ferrara. A pond and waterfall were built, a perennial garden was created and a beautiful rock garden supporting the 4th grade science curriculum was installed. This courtyard area is maintained by parent volunteers from the PTO, and by Mrs. Thieringer (a 5th grade science teacher) and the Science Environmental Club. Students interested in learning about perennial and annual plants, who enjoy working with their hands, or who would like to learn more about rocks, minerals and aquatic plants and fish, should sign up in the spring to participate in the Science Environmental club.

Science Fair
Chester students are fortunate to have the Chester Optimist Club’s annual Science Fair to showcase their annual science projects. Participation in the Science Fair is optional but encouraged for 3rd and 4th grade students. 5th grade students are required to do a science project and will receive an extra credit incentive to register and present their project at the Science Fair. Otherwise their project is presented to their science class at school the week following the Science Fair. Project presentations will be evaluated in three main categories.

(1.) use of the scientific method
(2.) oral presentation and
(3.) exhibit or display

Please visit the Science Fair web site found under District News at the Chester Township Schools web site www.chester-nj.org

STUDENT COUNCIL
Student government is made up of two elected representatives from each class.  The purpose of the organization is to allow students’ ideas to be heard, to assist with the development of Bragg Intermediate School, to promote leadership, citizenship and good will among students.  Student government serves their classmates with spirit days, community service, school store, and Human-I-Tees fundraiser.

WBRG RADIO STATION
Fifth grade students have the opportunity to experience a communication career by the Pledge of Allegiance and morning announcements.  This task builds self-esteem and self confidence in public speaking.

YEAR BOOK
Every year between September and February students from the fourth and fifth grade work to produce the yearbook for Bragg Intermediate School.  Students are involved in every aspect of yearbook production.  This includes designing and creating layouts as well as taking photographs that will appear in the yearbook. The final product is a yearbook that embodies the essence of Bragg Intermediate School.
