Introduction
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is a professional organization which has published the Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics series. The NCTM Standards provide educators with goals for school mathematics and guidelines for achieving these goals.
The Foundations of Learning (1999) curriculum offers Kindergarten through Grade 12 objectives for the Knowledge and Comprehension levels of Bloom's Taxonomy. EdVISION.com developed this curriculum based on extensive research of standardized and state tests. Additional objectives were added to enhance the content areas.
The Applications of Learning (1999) curriculum offers Kindergarten through Grade 12 objectives for the Application and Analysis levels of Bloom's Taxonomy. EdVISION.com developed this curriculum based on extensive research of standardized and state tests. Additional objectives were added to enhance the content areas.
The Higher Order Learning (1999) curriculum offers Grade 4 through Grade 12 objectives for the Synthesis and Evaluation levels of Bloom's Taxonomy. EdVISION.com developed this curriculum based on extensive research of standardized and state tests. Additional objectives were added to enhance the content areas.
To gauge student progress toward meeting the Core Curriculum Content Standards, the New Jersey Department of Education has developed a comprehensive set of assessments that measure knowledge and skills at grades four, eight, and eleven. Since not every indicator can be assessed through a statewide, standardized, written examination, individual districts will be involved in measuring the attainment of some performance expectations outline in the standards.
The New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards were published by the New Jersey Department of Education in May of 1996.
"The core curriculum content standards are an attempt to define the meaning of 'Thorough' in the context of the 1875 State constitutional guarantee that students would be educated within a Thorough and Efficient system of free public schools. They describe what all students should know and be able to do upon completion of a thirteen-year public education.
These standards are not meant to serve as a statewide curriculum guide. They define the results expected but do not limit district strategies for how to ensure that their students achieve these expectations."
This Curriculum includes principle components of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Each subject area encompasses basic and performance-based skills.
