Birthday
Books
The PTA organizes and runs the Birthday Book Program for the Dickerson Library. At Back to School Night each fall, parents have the opportunity to purchase a new book(s) and donate it to the library for their child’s birthday. The PTA volunteers make computer-generated bookplates that are placed inside the book with the child’s name and birthday. A certificate is issued to the students, which contains the name of their book, their birth date and their name. Students get to keep the certificate, but must return the book to the library collection after they have read it.
If parents miss the opportunity to purchase a book at Back
to School Night, or they want to donate a specific title, they can purchase a
book elsewhere and send it to school with a note designating it as their
child’s Birthday Book.
Books are distributed as close to the student’s birthday as possible. Students with summer birthdays receive their books as soon as the bookplates and certificates are ready.
