Ceremony Marks Distinction for Black River Middle School

On May 17 Black River Middle School officials and students accepted a plaque naming Black River as a School to Watch.  The presentation was made by the New Jersey Department of Education.  The Chester middle school is one of only two schools in New Jersey and one of 43 in the country to earn this year’s honor.

On June 7, representatives from the New Jersey Department of Education presented a School To Watch banner to the BRMS students, staff and administration at an awards ceremony.  Mrs. Becky Keane's inspiring speech is attached.

Schools to Watch is a national program which identifies middle-level schools that do an exemplary job of addressing student achievement and the unique needs of early adolescents.  New Jersey is one of 18 states that participate in the program, which is sponsored by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform.

Black River Middle School will participate in the national Schools to Watch conference on June 24-26 in Washington, DC, where its instructional practices and school programs will be showcased.
