Fine Motor

  • Why are fine motor skills important?

Fine motor skills involve the small muscles of the body that enable such functions as writing, grasping small objects, and fastening clothing.  Students spend a great portion of the school day performing fine motor activities such as holing a pencil and writing, coloring, and using scissors to cut. In order for fine motor skills to develop, students need the foundation of gross motor control, in- hand manipulation skills, bilateral coordination and sensory processing.

In- hand Manipulation: In-hand Manipulation is the ability to move itms around in the hand including translating and item from the palm to finger tips, shifting an item in your hand, and rotating items.
