Ideas to help increase fine motor skills:
- Bounce and catch a small rubber ball
- Squish a soft ball
- Let your child be your own personal shredder and have them rip and tear paper
- Have your child snip a pile of scrap paper with scissors or let them clip your coupons
- Move magnets around the fridge
- Pinch clothespins
- Play connect four, Jacks, Pick up Sticks, Lite Brite, Uno, Hungry Hippos, Kerplunk
- Eat with chopsticks
- Use a squirt bottle to water plants,or decorate the driveway. Colored water looks great on the snow
- Use a hole punch to make a design on a piece of construction paper
- Paper basketball- have you child rip small pieces of paper, crumple into a ball and throw into a cup or basket.
- Play with bubble wrap
- Draw with broken crayons on different mediums- construction paper, sand paper, cardboard
- Bake something yummy- have your child assist with stirring, scooping, rolling, kneading.
- Lay over a pillow to color or complete a puzzle, color on an easel.
- Tongs: - pick up pompoms and put in the back of a dump truck. Once the truck is filled dump them out and start over again.
- Stickers: taking them off and decorate a paper, make a card
- Sand/ garden play: dig with a shovel, scoop dirt/ sand into a bucket.
- Spray bottle: water the plants; clean the kitchen table, bathtub play
