What's happening in Student Services.... Dear Colleagues, Parents,
This week in Student Services (Chester School district) , we are celebrating "Inclusive Schools Week." It is imperative that we, as educators and parents, always work to include all of our students (and children) and provide a supportive and quality education. In all of the schools, our special education teachers have developed inclusion activities for staff and students to do, and participate in, to educate and inform them about inclusion and disabilities.
On January 14th, 2020, Dr. Jed Baker is coming to Chester to speak to our parents. Dr. Baker has authored several books and is the director of the Social Skills Training Project, a private organization serving individuals with autism and social communication difficulties. Dr. Baker will teach us how to handle "meltdowns and challenging behaviors, and design effective behavior plans to prevent these moments and reduce frustration and anxiety."
On March 3rd, 2020, Kirk Martin, of Celebrate Calm, will be here to speak to our parents. Mr. Martin says, "If you have a strong-willed child who doesn't respond to consequences, argues like an attorney, and refuses to do things your way? ... Celebrate Calm is for you." Mr. Martin will provide us with some great tips and techniques to use with our children that work.
If you have a 3 year old, do not forget, we will be holding Preschool Registration January 7th and 8th for our "Reach for the Stars" program at Dickerson School. If your child already attends the program, you will need to re-register by January 6th to save your child's place in the program. We will be sending you a registration form shortly. We will then be taking first come, first serve registrations on January 7th for the remaining placements.
Enjoy the holidays with your children and treasure those wonderful family moments. Don't forget to take time for you as we need you healthy and rested.....see my newsletter... use the link.
