The Chester Board of Education is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Brad Currie as Assistant Superintendent. Mr. Currie has served as the Director of Planning, Research, and Evaluation for the Chester School District since 2017. From 2012-2017, Mr. Currie served as the Black River Middle School Vice Principal and Supervisor of Instruction, where he was recognized as the 2017 NJPSA Assistant Principal of the Year and the 2017 NASSP National Assistant Principal of the Year (the first time a New Jersey Vice Principal has received this honor).
Mr. Currie began his teaching career in 2001, for the Hanover Township School District in Whippany, New Jersey, after graduating from Rider University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education and Social Studies. He taught middle school social studies and computer applications for 8 years at Memorial Junior School. He returned to Rider University to earn a Masters in Educational Administration. In 2009, Mr. Currie was appointed Assistant Principal and Athletic Director for the Readington Township School District.
Mr. Currie is proud of his contributions over the past decade with Black River Middle School’s National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades “Schools to Watch” redesignations and leading the district in obtaining New Jersey’s “Future Ready School” designation. Additionally, he helped lead Chester over the past decade with obtaining its “high-performing” QSAC status, 1:1 Chromebook initiative, security upgrades, school branding initiatives, overseeing a newly developed K-8 STEM program, and providing innovative professional development opportunities for teaching staff.
Mr. Currie has written four books that focus on topics related to teaching and leading in the digital era. He had the distinct honor of being named a 2023 Google Champion and a 2024 Edtech Magazine Top 30 Influencer. In 2014, Mr. Currie was recognized by the Association for Curriculum Development (ASCD), as an Emerging Leader. He also co-created and co-moderated an online Twitter conversation for educators, called #Satchat, from 2012-2024. Mr. Currie currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at Rider University and teaches two courses on educational technology.
Mr. Currie resides in Flemington, NJ with his wife Leigh (Special Education Teacher), and children Cooper (Freshman at Stockton University) and daughter Sydney (8th Grader at J.P. Case Middle School). In his spare time, Mr. Currie enjoys rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles, playing golf, and assisting with his daughter’s club softball team.
