Superintendent

  • Dr. Christina Van Woert has been the Superintendent of Schools/Director of Curriculum in the Chester School District since January 2008.  Prior to that, she served as the principal of Bragg School in Chester and has worked as a teacher, assistant principal and principal in the Cranford and Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey school districts.  She holds a Masters Degree in Teaching from Fairleigh Dickinson University, a Masters Degree in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Doctor of Education Degree from Teachers College, Columbia University where her dissertation was a study on ethics and the effect of administrators’ value systems on their problem solving capabilities.

As Superintendent of the Chester School District, Dr. Van Woert’s focus has been on working with the teachers and school administrators to help strengthen the curriculum and instructional approaches to ensure that best practices in educational research are employed in every classroom across the district.  Dr. Van Woert has stated, “We have so many aspects of educational excellence in effect throughout the district already.  I hold the teaching and administrative staff in the highest regard.  They are the primary reason why the Chester School District has such an unparalleled reputation.  My goal is to help tie all of these approaches together into a cohesive whole that can unite all three of the schools to create a common understanding of what is effective teaching and learning practices uniformly applied to all of Chester’s children."
